Fish near the shore are used to being fed and approach swimmers hoping for food. They typically become defensive near their nesting spots, and in that case can be persistent — even fins won't necessarily keep them away.
The pier offers only marginally more fish than the beach itself — the difference is not significant. Species spotted include rays, moray eels, and lionfish. The fish are not aggressive and will keep their distance if left alone.
