TL;DR
It is sensible to pack water shoes for Hurghada, as some resort entry points have coral, rocks and occasional sea urchins. At beaches with a smooth sandy entry, however, most guests swim barefoot.
Another recent report describes a good sandy sea entry at this resort, where the vast majority of guests swim without water shoes. They may still help if compacted or uneven sand feels uncomfortable underfoot.
At the beach section near the new building, the seabed can include coral and scattered rocks, making water shoes useful. A sea urchin was also reportedly found in shallow water near the shore.
Near the old Seagull section, it may be possible to enter the sea barefoot, but water shoes are still the safer choice when you do not know what is on the seabed.
