Does the Red Sea in Egypt get very shallow at low tide — can you actually swim, or is it just wading?

TL;DR
Yes, at low tide the water near shore is very shallow (waist-to-chest deep at most), and pontoons/barriers block swimming further out; real swimming is only possible after high tide or beyond the reef line.
The sea near shore is shallow with no fish visible — but that actually makes it safe and comfortable for kids to swim.
The entry into the water is gentle, but depth near shore is at most chest-high — pontoons block swimming further out.
Once you get used to it, swimming is fine, but the sea has sharp, short stretches alternating between cold and warm water.
There's not much at the beach besides a small shallow pool — the sea entry itself isn't great for young kids either.
The non-swimmer area is very small, and at low tide the water there is genuinely below knee-deep.
