How can I stay safe at hotel pools and beaches in Egypt, including pool supervision and protecting belongings on sunbeds?

Do not leave clothes, phones, or bags unattended on a sunbed while swimming: even during a short swim, another guest may move your things and take the shaded spot. Take valuables in a waterproof pouch or ask a companion to watch them.

Watch children especially closely at water slides and cooler pools: after coming off a slide, a child can end up in deep water and panic. Even where a lifeguard is on duty, use armbands or a flotation vest for weak swimmers.

Non-swimmers should not enter an unfamiliar pool without checking its depth: apparently calm water can become deep very close to the edge. Resort lifeguards may have oxygen equipment and first-aid training, but guests should not rely on rescue response alone.
