How dangerous are underwater currents at Egypt beach resorts and when is the pier closed?

Based on 2 discussions with 2 participants · Last activity: 20 days ago

TL;DR

Underwater currents can be extremely strong — lifeguards regularly pull swimmers to safety. The pier is typically closed from around 11am to 2pm due to dangerous conditions.

What the community said

The pier closes approximately from 11am to 2pm due to powerful underwater currents. The location is a headland rather than a sheltered bay, creating dangerous conditions. Lifeguards have been seen throwing life rings and jumping in to rescue swimmers who couldn't make it back on their own.

Currents can be so strong that swimming back unaided becomes impossible. Lifeguards have had to jump into the water to rescue struggling swimmers. On particularly dangerous days the pier area is closed entirely.

Sea urchins are abundant in shallow water early in the morning (7–9am). As the tide rises they move deeper. In previous seasons lifeguards actively cleared urchins from the beach, but this year that practice has largely stopped.
