TL;DR
Hotels in Egypt can usually provide more drinking water than the initial room supply. Ask housekeeping, refill at a restaurant water dispenser, or have your own bottle filled at a bar; one couple received six bottles initially and was given more on request.
At one hotel, a couple initially received six water bottles. Housekeeping increased the supply when asked; they tipped the cleaner 100–200 RUB.
Ask the room attendant for extra water if the bottles left in your room are not enough.
You can also refill from a water dispenser in the dining area. Hotel bars will generally fill water into a bottle or other container you bring.
Stomach upset is not necessarily specific to Egypt: changing water and surroundings can affect some travelers even when visiting another city. One recent visitor reported no food poisoning during their trip.
