TL;DR
Use UV-protective rash guards, neck-covering caps, and SPF 50+ sunscreen. Poolside sunbeds with slatted metal umbrellas offer poor shade — the beach is a better option.
Young children (around 5 years old) can get cold on the beach due to strong winds — wrapping them in a towel helps. Older kids usually handle the wind fine.
Poolside umbrellas have slatted metal tops with 2–3 cm gaps — sunlight comes through and even sunscreen doesn't prevent burns. Metal sunbeds are hard to move and screech loudly on tiles, which can frighten small children. The beach is a better choice.
The first three rows of beach sunbeds get taken very early — by 7:30 AM they're already occupied. Most guests arrive around 10 AM. Spots in the back rows are usually still available.
UV-protective rash guards with long sleeves work well for kids in Egypt's summer sun. Combined with SPF 50+ sunscreen, they allow staying outdoors even in July without burns.
Neck-flap caps (legionnaire-style) are a great complement to UV swimwear and provide solid sun protection for kids at the beach.
