TL;DR
A red flag is typically used for rough sea conditions and can mean no swimming or pier diving, while an orange flag means swimming is limited to the lifeguard-designated area. Do not go beyond buoys, toward piers, or near restricted areas without lifeguard approval.
Near the Sharm Club pier, do not swim far to the left because of a military area. Ask the lifeguard about swimming boundaries and access to neighbouring beaches rather than attempting to bypass restrictions in the water.
After four days of a red flag, an orange flag was raised; lifeguards monitored swimmers and whistled those who went beyond the permitted area back. If the boundary is unclear, ask where it is before entering the water.
The red flag was displayed because of waves. In these conditions, do not assume normal swimming is allowed; wait for an official all-clear from the lifeguard.
