What is the reef pontoon like at Farana Reef (Red Sea, Hurghada area) and how do you get into the water there?

TL;DR
A new pontoon was recently rebuilt at Farana Reef (finished faster than the promised two weeks), but there are still no steps into the water — you have to walk barefoot over rocks and debris to reach deep water. You can safely leave shoes, hats and belongings in a beach bag on the pontoon; nothing gets stolen.
A brand-new pontoon at Farana Reef was just finished — workers completed it even faster than the promised two weeks.
Some visitors think the new pontoon is pointless since it doesn't reach the reef itself — that distance is short enough to walk.
To reach deep water you have to walk barefoot over a rocky, littered path; wearing reef shoes is awkward since there's nowhere to stash them during a two-hour swim (can't carry them or tuck them under a wetsuit).
Tip: leave your reef shoes, hats and other belongings (except phones) in a beach bag right on the pontoon — nothing goes missing.
A year ago the pier was fully intact but had no steps leading into the water.
About 7 years ago the pier was in good shape; later, getting into the water became difficult, especially for older or heavier people — a simple fix (adding 4 planks) was never done, and now it keeps deteriorating further.
