TL;DR
If no rooms are free at early check-in or late check-out, the resort still gives you wristbands/towel cards so you can use the pools, beach, and food all-inclusive; luggage goes to storage, and you can pay extra to extend the room.
If a room is cleaned and free, they may check you in earlier than the standard time — worth checking with reception periodically, roughly every 30 minutes.
For late check-out, the wristband stays on — just vacate the room, leave luggage at the storage room, and keep enjoying the resort facilities until your transfer.
If no rooms are available at check-in or check-out time, the hotel will assign one as soon as it's free; extending your stay beyond checkout is possible for an extra fee.
Before the airport transfer on a late check-out day, you can shower and change in the resort's spa area.
Don't worry about early check-in: if the room is ready, you'll be checked in right away; if not, the front desk hands out wristbands and towel cards before 2pm so you can immediately use the beach, pools, and dining.
