Are there mosquitoes or bed bugs in Sharm el-Sheikh hotels?

At one hotel, plug-in mosquito repellents are provided in the rooms. In a recent report, there were no mosquitoes indoors, while spray prevented the occasional evening bites outside.

In one report, a locally bought repellent worked poorly, but mosquito-repellent mats brought from home solved the issue: despite mosquitoes being present, there were no further bites.

In October 2025, one Sharm el-Sheikh hotel reportedly had very heavy mosquito activity. Sprays provided only partial relief, and, in that guest’s experience, property-wide pest treatment made no noticeable difference.

Very small, hard-to-see mosquitoes can appear on balconies even after several bite-free days. One practical tip from a stay was to leave the balcony light off: after doing so, no further bites occurred, and there were no bites elsewhere at the hotel.

One guest used Reftamid repellent successfully: got badly bitten the first evening on the balcony because they only sprayed indoors and forgot outdoor exposed skin. After that, applying Reftamid outdoors every evening resulted in zero bites over 10 days. A plug-in fumigator was brought but never needed — no mosquitoes in the room, though other rooms in the same hotel reportedly had issues.

Another guest had read beforehand that there were no mosquitoes, but got bitten on the very first evening — specifically on the strip of bare skin between socks and jeans. She then bought repellent locally after arrival.

One guest speculated that mosquito activity may depend on lawn watering — they got bitten in winter under a balcony where the lawn seemed to be watered heavily, and mosquitoes are attracted to moisture.

Another guest reported no mosquitoes felt or seen, despite staying in a Garden View room where they'd expect them. The hotel grounds are treated against mosquitoes every evening. A plug-in device and spray brought along ended up unused.

If you plan to sit on the balcony in the evening, mosquito coil spirals are recommended — one guest's child got badly bitten on the balcony the previous evening without using them.

In late June/early July the guest wasn't bitten personally, but the hotel bar had even more mosquitoes than outdoors — small but numerous. A couple of sprays of Reftamid repellent worked well against them.

Another report: in the evening, sitting on the balcony and on a veranda near the lobby, mosquitoes bit a lot (legs covered in bites); another guest was also bitten on the veranda right after the lobby in the evening. Yet the next day there were no mosquitoes at all — conditions vary day to day even at the same hotel.

At Rixos, a guest reported not seeing any mosquitoes at all during a full week, reinforcing that conditions vary a lot by hotel.

At Park Regency, guests reported no mosquitoes, and the hotel was actively spraying/treating the grounds against them during the stay.

Mosquitoes are more likely in greener hotel areas with flowers, grass, and plants, especially in the evening along paths to the sea near standard rooms. Inside rooms, only occasional strays were reported, and opening the balcony door increases the chance they fly in.

Mosquitoes and midges are present outdoors in Sharm el-Sheikh, but rarely make it into hotel rooms. No bed bugs found. Sensitivity varies — some guests get bitten a lot, others not at all.

A plug-in electric mosquito repellent kept the room bite-free. Bites seen on other guests' legs outdoors were likely from tiny ants rather than mosquitoes.

Over two nights at a hotel on the Naama Bay promenade, only one mosquito got in — the balcony was kept mostly closed. Repellent wristbands bought online beforehand worked well, no bites. Hotel pest control quality makes a big difference.
