ATM withdrawal limits and hidden fees in Sharm el-Sheikh Egypt

A test withdrawal of 100 EGP incurred a very high charge, bringing the total cost of the transaction to about EUR 8.

If an ATM declines the requested amount, it may lack notes in the necessary denomination. Try rounding the amount down—for example, request 4,200 EGP instead of 4,250 EGP.

At the ATM near Gomla, the effective payout rate was below 50 EGP per unit of currency even though the quoted rate was slightly above 50; check the final amount and exchange rate before confirming.

Withdrawing 4,000 EGP from an ABC Bank ATM incurred a fee of 250 RUB per transaction. The 8,000 EGP single-withdrawal option at ABC ATMs has also been confirmed by another user.

If an ATM charged unexpected fees, file a dispute with your home bank after returning — refunds are possible in some cases, though the process can take up to two months.

Using the same ATM repeatedly (e.g. the sixth time in a row) can trigger an ATM surcharge of 300 EGP, plus your home bank may charge an additional 300 EGP — meaning a 4,000 EGP withdrawal can cost 4,600 EGP total.

Most ATMs in Sharm el-Sheikh dispense up to 4,000 EGP per transaction. ABC Bank ATMs are advertised as allowing up to 8,000 EGP per withdrawal, but this does not always work in practice.
