TL;DR
In Sharm El Sheikh almost everyone uses the InDrive app — even local drivers rely on it, and your ride usually waits a bit away from the hotel entrance rather than right at the door.
Local drivers in Sharm El Sheikh price their rides based on InDrive rates — for example, a ride from the Old Market area to a hotel was offered at the same price shown in the app.
An airport-to-hotel transfer with a few stops at other hotels took about 30 minutes. The area right around the hotel usually has only souvenir shops and pharmacies, so for going out (e.g. to Naama Bay) it's convenient to order a ride via InDrive.
If the InDrive app auto-detects the wrong Egyptian city, turn off location services — this lets you manually select Sharm El Sheikh, enter your route, and see the suggested price. At large hotels, official taxis/transfers can pull right up to the entrance, but an InDrive car usually waits a bit further away, on the road outside the hotel.
