Where to buy mango in Sharm el-Sheikh and how to bring it home on the plane?

If no mangoes are sold near your hotel, in late July 2026 participants suggested checking the nearby Carrefour and Abu Ashara supermarkets — each was no more than a 5-minute walk from their hotel. The traveler who asked went to Carrefour that evening and said it was convenient, right nearby.

In July 2026 a participant confirmed that a box for transport is provided right at purchase, but warned that mango season starts in September.

In late June 2026 travelers who had visited both Mango Market and the Fix Price store in Naama Bay (the pyramid-shaped mall) said they preferred buying fruit at Mango Market. Fresh mango juice was offered at the entrance, and a seller at the mango stand let them taste every variety and asked whether they wanted ripe fruit to eat now or fruit to take on the plane. For the flight, mangoes are packed tightly into boxes that are allowed on board; they did not buy any themselves but said half the plane was carrying such boxes.

At Gomla market in late June 2026 mangoes were sold for 30, 45 and 70 Egyptian pounds. A few days later other travelers wrote that the mangoes at Gomla looked old to them and they decided not to buy.

Bargaining pays off. In June 2026 an elderly vendor on the corner near the fish market offered mangoes at 2 dollars, and when the buyers walked away he called after them with 1 dollar.

Opinions differ on whether to haul lots of mangoes home. Some participants joked in June–September 2026 that carrying heavy bags makes little sense because the same mangoes are sold in supermarket chains back home. Others replied that at home mangoes cost about four times as much, and one participant suggested fresh (not dried) dates instead, which chain stores do not carry.
