Where to buy mango in Sharm el-Sheikh and how to bring it home on the plane?

Mango Market is the best option in Sharm. At the entrance they offer fresh mango juice, and a staff member at the mango stand lets you taste every variety, then helps you pick ripe ones to eat now or firmer ones for the flight home. They pack them tightly in boxes suitable for carry-on — reportedly half the plane flies home with these boxes.

At Gomla market mango is sold for 30, 45 or 70 EGP depending on variety and seller. However, in late June the quality was disappointing — the fruit seemed old and overripe, so some travelers left empty-handed.

Near the fish market there's a street vendor selling mangoes who starts at $2 each, but calls you back and drops to $1 if you walk away. Bargaining is definitely worth it here.

Buying large quantities of mango is a popular tourist pastime, but keep in mind the weight — hauling heavy bags is no fun. If you're transiting through a country with good supermarkets, you can find similar mangoes at home, so it's only worth bringing back if you want a specific local variety or exceptional freshness.
