Can I visit Abkhazia (Sukhumi) from Batumi/Georgia and re-enter Georgia afterward?

TL;DR
Entering Abkhazia from the Georgian side (via the Enguri Bridge from Zugdidi) and returning to Georgia afterward, e.g. to Kobuleti, generally works fine — the real risk is entering Abkhazia from the Russian side instead.
One traveler clarified that the confusion came from mixing up two topics: the original discussion was about entering Georgia via Tbilisi (arrival), not about leaving Georgia toward Abkhazia — these are different border scenarios, so it's worth being clear about direction of travel when asking locals.
Another participant, who hasn't been to Abkhazia himself, noted that if you go there at all, it should be from the Georgian side — not via Russia — to avoid problems re-entering Georgia later.
A traveler said she regretted not knowing the rules beforehand — had she known, she would have taken a side trip from Georgia to Sukhumi and then returned to Kobuleti without issues, as re-entry would likely have been smooth.
