Do apartments in Batumi have gas supply, and does it matter when renting?

In late July 2026 a resident said their complex has two buildings, one with gas and one without. When the electricity goes off, both suffer; when the gas goes off, only the gas-supplied building does. Another participant wrote that one of the reasons he lives in a building without gas is that in a building with gas, the gas can break down as well.

The case for gas: in July 2026 a resident who cooks at home wrote that her gas goes off about once a year, whereas the electricity goes off every week. Without gas she cannot make breakfast, lunch or dinner, but that is rare, while an electric stove, in her words, is cut off far more often.

Another point made in July 2026: a gas water heater runs on batteries, so hot water stays on even during a power cut. Participants added that you can cook on gas even in the dark and that gas is cheaper than electricity.

According to a participant's estimate in July 2026, gas heating costs roughly 100–200 GEL a month, while electric heating starts at 200 GEL and goes up. The final amount depends on the size of the flat and how warm you like to keep it.

The flip side: in July 2026 participants pointed out that a heating boiler has electric ignition, so gas heating does not work without electricity either. One of them argued that in a power cut residents with and without gas end up in almost the same situation — the only difference is that those with gas can still cook on the stove.

In a July 2026 discussion about reliability, one participant noted that there are gas-fired power plants in the region and that they run on gas from Azerbaijan rather than domestic supply.

Downsides of gas mentioned by residents: in June 2026 one said a building without gas has one problem fewer, since electricity and water break down everywhere, and those with gas also have the gas to worry about. In September another added that besides a plumber and an electrician you will sometimes need a gas technician too.

A renting tip from June 2026: if at a viewing you are told there is no gas yet but it will be connected any day now, then there is no gas and, in one participant's estimate, about a 90% chance there never will be. Plan around what the flat has right now.
