TL;DR
Exchange about $20 at the airport, buy a transport card at the souvenir shop in the departure area, and take bus #10 or 10A (fare 0.70 GEL with the card) — it goes to the other side of Batumi. Alternatively, order a Yandex taxi and pay cash.
You only need to exchange around $20 at first — that's enough to get started; avoid exchanging large sums right away.
You can buy a public transport card in the airport's departure area, at the souvenir shop on the left.
Top up the card at the orange terminal in the arrivals area: walk straight to the end, it's on the left near an ATM — load about 10 GEL (locals will usually help if you're unsure how).
From the airport, bus #10 or 10A will take you across to the other side of Batumi; fare is 0.70 GEL with the transport card.
An alternative to the bus is ordering a taxi via the Yandex app and paying with cash.
There are also shared minibuses (marshrutkas) running from the land border to the airport, a separate transport option many travelers already know about.
