Which bank is best in Batumi to open an account or receive a money transfer?

In July 2026 participants suggested skipping pick-up money transfers and instead opening a TBC Bank card to receive money directly on it. In their view, the exchange rate this way may well be better than with a cross-border money transfer service.

A TBC Bank ATM and cash desk were reported in July 2026 at 6 Egnate Ninoshvili Street; you can also withdraw cash or use a teller at the bank's branches in other parts of the city.

TBC or Credo: in late July 2026 participants wrote that TBC was opening accounts freely and very quickly and is better overall. Credo opens accounts without problems or extra questions, but participants described it as a worse and more expensive bank. In the same period, Russian nationals were reportedly opening accounts at both banks without problems; if TBC is slow, it is probably running customer checks (KYC).

You do not have to get a local card in advance: in July 2026 participants advised bringing the card you already have, since Batumi has plenty of currency exchange offices. If you do open a TBC account, you will need a local SIM card, and you should keep that number so you do not lose access to the bank.
