After the insurance requirement took effect on 1 January 2026, one traveler reported crossing into Georgia three times. Their policy was checked only at airline check-in; at the Georgian border, only the passport was requested and the insurance was not shown.

Travelers mentioned that policies from Russian insurers such as RESO are often partly in English. The practical advice was to carry a version where the key details are readable in English or Georgian to avoid issues at the border.

One traveler noted that some foreign nationals were told their home-country insurance was not accepted for Georgia, so the practical takeaway is to verify that Georgia is explicitly listed in the coverage rather than relying on where the policy was issued.

Several messages pointed to the same advice: if you have a multi-country policy, make sure Georgia is explicitly included. Travelers were unsure whether a generic ‘all countries’ wording was enough, so a policy naming Georgia directly was seen as safer.

On an actual trip from Yerevan to Tbilisi, the airline check-in desk asked whether the travelers had insurance because they expected it might be checked on arrival. In the end, passport control in Tbilisi did not ask for it, and the border officer said it was not needed to show.
