How to get from Tbilisi to Yerevan: bus, minibus or train?

Trains run every other day (not daily). Besides bus and train, there are minivans from various carriers (multiple departures per day) and private/individual transport for hire — choice depends on price and travel time.

On the train you can walk around and stretch, there's a vending machine with food, and the route runs along the sea with scenic views. Complaints about the bus: actual travel time can exceed the schedule, frequent stops prevent sleeping, the driver may talk loudly, and the AC is set too strong.

There's a small chance to catch a night train, but seats are limited. Regular bus tickets are almost always available — several carriers operate the route.

CityBus and MetroGeorgia buses run several times a day. Note that arrival points vary — either Didube or Ortachala — so choose the more convenient one. Tickets available on tkt.ge or at the station. The train is still the preferred option.

During peak season, bus and train tickets sell out quickly. Minibuses are a viable backup, though less comfortable. The Armenian train is worth considering as it tends to have more available seats.

In late September, buses are actually more expensive than the train, not cheaper. Minibuses are plentiful but the train wins on both price and comfort. On regular days, up to 4 trains run daily.
