TL;DR
No, Nusa Dua prices are generally similar to Uluwatu or Ubud — it's only pricier right on the beachfront promenade. Away from the tourist strip, in local neighborhoods, food is cheap, e.g. at Ikan Bakar Vichi.
After comparing prices in Uluwatu, Ubud, Kintamani, and Nusa Dua, one traveler found Nusa Dua isn't pricier overall — the difference shows up only right on the beachfront, and Uluwatu's coastal spots are similarly expensive.
Question about whether cafes in Nusa Dua are really more expensive than in other parts of Bali.
If you have a scooter, ride into the local neighborhood in Nusa Dua — Ikan Bakar Vichi restaurant serves seafood at very low prices, despite the area's reputation for being expensive.
After a week in Merusaka, dinner at W-Gourmet was great. In Uluwatu, Uli Fisherman was also excellent but the bill there comes out higher than at W-Gourmet.
