Can children use automated passport gates in Bali and what documents are needed when traveling with a child?

At Ngurah Rai automated gates, a biometric passport is enough regardless of visa type — even a visa paid and processed on arrival at the airport (not pre-arranged e-visa) still allows using the autogate. The key requirement is a biometric (10-year) passport, not the visa method.

A birth certificate does not always prevent questions from border officers, especially for children over 14 or those not listed in a parent's passport. Officers sometimes request a notarized consent letter from the absent parent even when not legally required. It is advisable to carry such a document as a precaution.

A child with a biometric passport and a pre-paid visa (such as VOA or e-Visa) is eligible to use the automated gate at Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport. When traveling with one adult, it is generally safer for the adult to go through first and wait on the other side for the child.
