TL;DR
Scooter trips from Canggu are most comfortable within a 1–1.5-hour radius. Sanur and Ubud can work as day trips, but traffic and rain can add major delays; stay overnight for Ubud, Kintamani and volcano areas.
Sanur is feasible as a full-day scooter trip from Canggu: the ride takes about one hour when traffic is moving normally. You can spend the day at the beach or a beach club and walk along the waterfront in the evening.
Bedugul is one of the more direct destinations from Canggu, but allow roughly 2.5–3 hours each way and expect slower riding once you reach the mountains. Inexperienced riders should learn how to brake on long descents and handle sand and rocky surfaces before going.
Ubud can sometimes be about an hour from Canggu, but rain can bring traffic in central Ubud and surrounding roads to a standstill. One-way journeys have taken up to three hours, so avoid an overly tight day-trip schedule.
For Kintamani, volcanoes and northern Bali sights, relocate to Ubud first and stay for at least 1–2 days. It is a more convenient base for heading north, and an overnight stay keeps the trip from becoming mostly driving.
