Do I need to register my phone’s IMEI in Indonesia to use a local SIM card for more than 90 days?

TL;DR
Yes. To keep using an Indonesian SIM card on an imported phone after 90 days, IMEI registration is generally required. Without it, mobile service may stop working even if you insert a newly purchased local SIM.
If you plan to stay in Bali for more than 90 days using a local SIM or eSIM, register your phone’s IMEI. After that period, the device may be blocked from Indonesian mobile networks.
An eSIM working during the first few weeks does not mean registration is unnecessary; the restriction generally becomes relevant after 90 days of use in Indonesia.
Once an unregistered IMEI is blocked, buying another Indonesian SIM card will generally not solve the problem, as the new SIM may also fail to work in that handset.
If your Telkomsel service is nearing its expiry, check whether your IMEI was registered. For stays exceeding 90 days without registration, you will need to complete IMEI registration to continue using mobile service.
