TL;DR
You can book speedboat tickets via Trip.com or local agents. Payment to agents is made on arrival at the destination. Additional port fees on Gili and Nusa Penida are paid in cash on-site.
Booking speedboat tickets through a local Bali agent: no upfront payment required — you pay the representative directly upon arrival on Nusa Penida. Scooter rental on the island can also be arranged through the same contact.
When departing from Gili Islands, boarding is not allowed until payment is confirmed via Trip.com — roughly a small fee per couple. Wi-Fi is available at the pier so you can complete the payment on the spot.
Additional port/departure fees on both Gili Islands and Nusa Penida are cash only — cards are not accepted. It's best to have Indonesian rupiah on hand before arriving at the pier.
