How to get to Nusa Penida from Ubud, Uluwatu or Nusa Dua: ferry ports, travel time, prices and bringing a scooter

From Ubud, the most practical route is to Sanur Harbour, typically a 45–75 minute drive depending on traffic. Fast boats run from there to Banjar Nyuh and Toya Pakeh on Nusa Penida, usually costing Rp150,000–300,000 one way.

You can bring your own scooter to Nusa Penida only on a Ro-Ro ferry from Padang Bai, not on a standard passenger fast boat. The crossing takes roughly 1.5–2 hours, and while it allows scooters, many island roads are rough; inexperienced riders may be better off renting locally or hiring a car with driver.

From Uluwatu, first travel to Sanur; allow around 1.5–2.5 hours by car, so leave early for a morning boat. From Sanur Harbour, choose a fast boat to Toya Pakeh or Banjar Nyuh; the sea crossing itself takes about 30–45 minutes.

From Nusa Dua, taxis or private drivers to Sanur usually take about 45–90 minutes, so include this in your total travel time. For early departures, booking a transfer together with the boat ticket is often more convenient than arranging a car in the morning.

If you are staying in Nusa Dua, check fast-boat departures from Geger Beach: it is closer than Sanur, but usually has fewer departures and services can be more seasonal or weather-dependent. Sanur remains the more reliable choice because it has more operators and sailings.

Check and book Nusa Penida fast-boat schedules with operators departing from Sanur Harbour at least a day ahead, especially for weekends. Arrive 30–45 minutes before departure for check-in and boarding; morning crossings are often calmer.
