TL;DR
A Lovina trip (dolphins and bioluminescent plankton) is worth doing once, but it requires splitting your itinerary into at least 2 days with an overnight stay due to the long drive from south Bali; many travelers prefer staying put on the beach in the Ayodya/Melasti area instead of the extra transfer.
After 3 days staying near Ayodya (south Bali), one traveler didn't want to leave the area at all — never even made it to nearby Melasti Beach despite its proximity.
A Lovina trip for dolphin watching and bioluminescent plankton is fine as a one-time excursion, but it means splitting the trip into 2 days with an overnight stay — the extra transfer isn't always worth it.
If you've already seen everything nearby and don't want to repeat sights, it's better to just spend more time on the coast rather than revisit the same spots a third time.
