TL;DR
The reports here are mostly negative about Sanur’s beaches: swimming was possible at high tide, but shallow water and seaweed detracted from the experience. Travelers who stayed in both areas in October 2026 rated Nusa Dua’s beaches much more highly.
One report described swimming in Sanur as possible at high tide, though the water still felt very shallow. A stretch closer to Icon Bali was preferred for its calm inlet and small waves; farther from Icon Bali, the water was shallower and seaweed brushed against swimmers’ legs.
After staying in Sanur on October 14–17 and Nusa Dua on October 17–20, 2026, travelers strongly preferred Nusa Dua’s beaches, reporting difficulty both entering the water and swimming in Sanur.
The October 2026 trip report also described Sanur as very dull after 10 p.m.
