Bring US dollars — they get the best exchange rates in Bali. Other currencies are rarely accepted or exchanged at poor rates. All prices are in Indonesian rupiah.

Chinese yuan are not recommended — exchange rates are poor and many exchange offices don't accept them at all. All prices in Bali are in Indonesian rupiah. A workaround when exchange offices are closed: some shops accept foreign currency and give change in rupiah, but this isn't reliable.

US dollars are the best currency to bring to Bali. When exchanging $400 or more, you can negotiate a better rate. Safe exchange procedure: the cashier counts rupiah in front of you, you agree on the amount, then count the bills yourself — only hand over your dollars after you've verified the full amount.
