Toddu vs Rasdu island in the Maldives — what's the difference?

One visitor found Toddu to be noisy and dirty; the only upside was a good beach, with no other pluses noted.

Rasdu experiences ebb tides (low tide), which is worth factoring in when planning to swim.

Rasdu is the atoll's capital, so it has excellent infrastructure: hookahs can be ordered or brought (charcoal can't be brought in but can be bought locally). The island is currently undergoing major reconstruction, especially around the port.

On Toddu, the best snorkeling isn't at the main beach area but elsewhere on the island — worth noting when deciding where to enter the water.

Rasdu stands out for its underwater world — great snorkeling/diving excursions, but you'll need coral/reef shoes to get into the water.

Toddu wins on beach quality — it's considered excellent. Rasdu is calmer and more laid-back, but the beach isn't as impressive.

Rasdu is a small island, roughly 2 km long, so the ocean is never far away. You can walk, rent a bike, or call a golf cart. Sun loungers can be reserved near the pool or beach right after breakfast.

Rasdu's beaches are not the highlight — the sea is shallow and the beach is modest. However, the island itself is beautiful and the all-inclusive offering is generous.
