TL;DR

If a planned flight from Sri Lanka to Russia is cancelled, look for replacement itineraries connecting via Turkey or China. These options can work, but fares may be substantially higher and may require rebooking the entire trip.

One fallback after a cancellation is to route your trip to Russia via Turkey. Check the total fare carefully, as connecting tickets may cost much more than the original booking.

Connection via Turkey

Flights to Russia via China are another option. They are not necessarily cheap, so compare the full cost of a new ticket, checked baggage, and any overnight stop.

Connection via China

After a cancellation, expect your whole travel budget to change: replacement flights are usually sold at current fares rather than at the price of the cancelled ticket.
