For a visa extension, bring bank statements, cash-withdrawal receipts and proof of income. In one case, immigration officers closely reviewed spending and sources of funds because they suspected unauthorized work.

Do not rely solely on a verbal airport assurance that an overstay can be settled later. A traveler who overstayed by five days while replacing lost passports was quoted US$100 and told payment could be made after returning.

The final payment for a visa overstay may be higher than the amount initially quoted. One traveler was told US$100 at the airport but ultimately paid US$310 after arrival.
