How to combine Unawatuna beach time with Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle sightseeing (Sigiriya, Kandy, Polonnaruwa)?

After Polonnaruwa you can head to Passikudah on the east coast, but on Booking there are very few 2-bedroom villas with a kitchen there — mostly luxury hotels. One route option: Polonnaruwa — Passikudah — Ella — Tangalle.

Light version of the route: Airport → Pinnawala (elephants) → Kandy → Sigiriya → Trincomalee, one day per city, ending with beach chill time in Trinco.

Full route: Airport → Pinnawala → Kandy → Nuwara Eliya → Ella → Polonnaruwa → Sigiriya → Trincomalee (beach at the end), also 1 day per city.

Tip: avoid going back and forth between the beach and sightseeing spots — since the whole central region is on the way to the east coast, it's more logical to do the whole sightseeing loop as one continuous trip.
The Polonnaruwa ruins are worth it — close to Trincomalee, easy to combine with beach time there.

Alternative route via Habarana: safari at Minneriya National Park, Sigiriya, the Dambulla cave temple, and the Polonnaruwa ruins — with a rental car or a driver.

After the cultural route, you can continue to Kandy, then cross to the other coast for surfing in Weligama and visit Galle Fort — while Unawatuna beach is always good for swimming.
