TL;DR
Over the past 2 years the sea near Belek's beaches is often murky with some litter, and hotel beaches are narrow — by midday it's crowded for swimming, while pool sunbeds get taken by 10am.
In recent days there's some litter near the shore, but it's noticeably less further out toward the buoys. There were also sudden shifts between cold and warm currents. Despite this, swimming was still enjoyable.
The beach is narrow — by midday you basically have to wait in line to get into the water, it's very crowded. You can walk left to the neighboring hotel's beach section and swim freely there. Pool sunbeds fill up fast — almost none left by 10am. Shuttle bus to the beach runs every 15 minutes from 8:30-12:00 and 12:00-17:30.
Last year in the Kestel area (near Belek) the sea was crystal clear, but there were big waves almost every day, making swimming difficult.
Over the last two years the sea water near Belek has noticeably worsened — often murky, with occasional litter. Because of this, many people swim only before lunch and from the local pier, then switch to the hotel pool or waterpark for the rest of the day.
