What is a 'French balcony' in Bodrum hotels and how is it different from a regular balcony?

A September 2026 account shows how this works in practice: a participant's relatives were moved after contacting their tour operator. First they had a semi-basement room, then they were offered an attic room under the roof, then a third-floor room with windows over the noisy pool, a door facing the neighbouring hotel's stage and a French balcony. The participant said she would not have accepted such a room herself, as she dislikes loud music from morning till night.

Another participant described his hotel differently in September 2026: there every room on the 2nd and 3rd floors has a balcony, and ground-floor rooms have a terrace instead — slightly larger than a balcony, and for some rooms much larger. So the balcony type depends on the specific hotel and floor.

Asked whether the hotel really has rooms with both French and regular balconies, a participant answered in early August 2026: if you booked a standard room, you will get a standard room, and most standard rooms have French balconies — which means practically no balcony, plus a mountain view.

In July 2026 a guest at one Bodrum hotel wrote that about half of the hotel has no balconies: what the hotel calls a French balcony is simply a panoramic window.
