Can you upgrade from a standard room to a family room at a hotel in Turkey on arrival, and what happens if the hotel is full?

In one case, the hotel issued not only the usual 2 room key cards but also a third one for an older family member with a different daily schedule. There was no extra fee or deposit for the additional card.

If the hotel is fully booked, you may not receive all your booked standard rooms right away at check-in. In one example, three families had to wait until 2:00 pm, and only one standard room became available.

When there are not enough rooms, a hotel may offer a temporary first-night solution, such as placing two families in one family room. This is usually presented as a stopgap measure, and not all guests accept it.

If no standard rooms are available, some guests may be placed in non-standard options such as an accessible room until regular rooms open up.

An upgrade to a family room at check-in may be offered only as a paid option. In one reported case, the quoted price was about RUB 20,000 for 8 days.

Even if you ask different reception staff, the answer may stay the same: when the hotel is at full occupancy, family rooms may simply be unavailable, and a free upgrade is unlikely.
