Do you need water shoes for rocky beaches in Turkey?

In spring near Alanya, some report a comfortable sea entry, but a small stream flows along the shoreline — because of this, some still prefer to wear water shoes when entering.

Experience varies by spot: some report pebbly entry quickly turning to sand with no boulders, and go in barefoot with no issue. Others find small pebbles painful underfoot (especially with waves) and wear water shoes almost every time.

Water shoes are a must on rocky Turkish beaches — stones cover the shoreline and the sea entry, with sand only appearing in deeper water. Even experienced swimmers find it impossible to enter barefoot.

A practical workaround is to wear regular flip-flops into the water and leave them on the shore — this protects your feet on the rocky entry if you don't have proper water shoes.

The Avsallar area has a scenic shoreline good for evening walks, but the beach stretch is short. Water shoes are especially relevant here due to the rocky seabed.
