How good is the soundproofing in Turkish apartment buildings and hotels?

Some hotels have surprisingly good soundproofing — neighbors are not audible at all, and carpeted corridors muffle footsteps and rolling suitcases. This contrasts with other hotels where neighboring showers and toilets are often clearly heard.

A room can be quiet inside but still let in road noise and street sounds, plus the housekeeper cleaning the room above starting around 8am — the noise mainly comes from outside sources rather than the room itself.

The hotel's main building is quieter than the other blocks, with less evening music noise. However, rooms facing the neighboring Rixos hotel get constant ventilation-hood noise, forcing guests to keep the balcony closed. Also, only the main building has an elevator — the other blocks don't, which is inconvenient with strollers.

Plumbing noise from neighboring units is very audible — the sound of water running can be alarming enough to make you think there's a burst pipe. A quiet stretch followed by sudden noise likely means new neighbors have moved in next door.

Soundproofing is essentially nonexistent in some units — neighbors above and to the side are audible as if you're in the same room, with individual words clearly distinguishable. An added issue is cigarette smoke drifting in from neighboring balconies, making it impossible to keep the balcony door open.

In block A, even rooms located near the elevator had surprisingly good soundproofing — neighbors were barely audible. This could be a combination of quiet neighbors and decent wall construction in that particular section of the building.
