TL;DR
Dedicated Russian restaurants are virtually nonexistent in Istanbul, but there are plenty of Uzbek and Turkmen eateries. In tourist areas, Russian-language menus are common and some staff speak Russian.
After years of living in Istanbul, no dedicated Russian cafes were found. However, Uzbek and Turkmen restaurants are plentiful, offer good food, and staff typically speak Russian fluently.
Istanbul has a large community of workers from Central Asian countries (Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan) who speak Russian fluently, so the language barrier in cafes is minimal.
In central Istanbul districts, waitstaff often know basic Russian phrases, and many restaurants offer Russian-language menus. For everything else, Google Translate or ChatGPT works well.
Small local Istanbul cafes often use picture menus, making it easy to order without knowing Turkish. Pointing and gesturing works just fine.
Rather than seeking Russian food, exploring Turkish cuisine is highly recommended — it's diverse and delicious. Guides to Turkish dishes and Istanbul street food can help navigate the local menu.
