Best beaches near Istanbul for swimming — Karaburun, Sile or Buyukada?

Florya is suggested as one of the closest beach options from Sultanahmet, without needing several transfers.

Bebek on the Bosphorus is another swimming option; a recent report describes pleasant water and a clean, seaweed-free bottom.

On Kinaliada, beaches begin immediately to the right of the ferry pier. Walking farther from the cafés and mooring area offers cleaner water; paid sections cost about 300 lira, while free swimming is available roughly 100 metres farther on. Facilities are basic, but it is a closer and less expensive option than Buyukada.

On Heybeliada, Asaf Bey Beach is an option: visitors may bring their own beach gear, and there is a sandy area by the shoreline, which can be convenient for families with children.

Also worth considering is Burgazada island and the beach in Madam Matra bay as a good swimming option.

The best beaches on Büyükada island are named as Yörükali Plajı, Ank'Ada Ayanikola, and Nakibey Plajı.

On Büyükada, Aya Nikola Beach costs about 1,600 lira per person, including sunbeds and umbrellas. The sea is clean, but the beach is small and can feel crowded.

Kinaliada island has a good beach and is a short ferry ride away. Entry costs 200 lira. Make sure to board the correct ferry — it's easy to accidentally end up on the more distant Heybeliada instead.

Karaburun is considered better than Sile — cleaner water and nicer beach. From Kumkapi you can take a bus, the journey takes about 1.5–2 hours. There is an entry fee, but it is modest.

Buyukada (the largest of the Princes' Islands) has several beaches worth visiting. Even in early summer when the water is still cool, swimming is possible. Ferries run from Kabatas or Bostanci piers.

For beach holidays in early October, resorts like Antalya, Side or Alanya on the Turkish Riviera are much better options than Istanbul's nearby beaches — the water stays warm longer and the season extends into October.
