Do I need an Istanbulkart to pay for transport in Istanbul, or can I use cash?

One of the discussed routes switched from cash payments to Istanbulkart in July. You need the transport card for the trip, as drivers cannot take cash.

If you only have cash, use it to buy and top up an Istanbulkart rather than trying to pay on board. Then tap the card at the transport terminal to pay the fare.

If you have an Istanbulkart or a bank card accepted on the route, there is no need to visit a ticket office. Drivers do not handle cash; payment is made at a terminal or by bank card.
