Better to choose the option of getting off at Eminönü/Sirkeci rather than at Kennedy Caddesi/Sultanahmet.

Make sure to tell the bus driver in advance that you want to get off at the Eminönü/Sirkeci stop, since it may not stop there by default.
The bus stops right after crossing Atatürk Caddesi street; from there it's about a 2-minute leisurely walk to the T1 tram stop.

With just carry-on luggage, it's an easy walk from the T1 tram stop (Sultanahmet) to a hotel near the Basilica Cistern — the distance is short.
