Is public transport near Taksim Square and Istiklal Street closed during protests or road closures in Istanbul?

During demonstrations in Beyoğlu, airport shuttle terminal stops may be moved: instead of Taksim, services can temporarily terminate elsewhere. Check the current terminal stop before traveling to or from the airport.

Istiklal Street and surrounding areas are periodically closed, with public transport and metro suspended during these times. If your hotel is in the area, there is a real risk of not being able to reach it.

Taksim Square and Istiklal Street were closed, and the funicular (Tünel) was not operating. Restrictions were expected to be lifted the following day.

On one occasion, the entire Taksim area was inaccessible: road closures disrupted pedestrian movement and public transport around the square was temporarily suspended.
