TL;DR

Drivers reported that some gas stations in Istanbul temporarily run out of gasoline, while diesel is generally easier to find. If you have a petrol car, don’t wait until the tank is nearly empty and check station apps before driving over.

What the community said

By mid-July, some drivers said they keep extra fuel cans in the car as a backup because nearby stations may have no gasoline available.

fuel cans

Recent reports suggest diesel is currently easier to get in Istanbul than gasoline, with diesel-car owners finding refueling less problematic than petrol drivers.

diesel

Earlier driver reports said gas-station apps may show fuel availability, but nearby stations can still be out of gasoline in reality. Diesel is more commonly available, though not at every station all the time.
