TL;DR
Seafood is widely available in Istanbul: mussels are sold as street food on Istiklal Avenue, while oysters and lobster can be found at restaurants in Beyoglu, Karakoy, and along the Bosphorus waterfront.
On Istiklal Avenue and in the Beyoglu area, you can find seafood spots in the evening — mussels and oysters are common. Street vendors sell stuffed mussels (midye dolma) right on the street, a classic Istanbul street food, costing around 5–10 lira each.
For a proper sit-down seafood dinner with oysters and lobster, head to the Karakoy district or the Ortakoy waterfront, where fish restaurants offer a wide selection of seafood.
The Galatasaray Fish Market (Balik Pazari) near Istiklal Avenue is a great spot for fresh seafood. You can buy oysters, mussels, and fish there, and small taverns (meyhane) nearby will cook them for you on the spot.
On the Asian side in the Kadikoy district, there are excellent seafood restaurants at more affordable prices than in tourist-heavy areas. Oysters and fresh fish are highlights here.
The Kumkapi district on the European side is historically known as Istanbul's 'fish quarter' — dozens of seafood restaurants here serve lobster, crayfish, and more. It gets lively in the evenings, often with live music.
