Which Istanbul ferry pier is best for getting to the Princes’ Islands, and do I need to check the timetable in advance?

TL;DR
For the Princes’ Islands, direct ferries from Kabataş or Bostancı are usually the most convenient; check the timetable because departures can be infrequent. Ferries from Eminönü run less often, and some routes require changing in Kadıköy.
A faster alternative: take the Marmaray to Maltepe station, from where a direct ferry to the Princes' Islands takes only about 20 minutes. Ferries departing from the city center (Eminönü) make around five intermediate stops and are much slower and more tiring.
Do not rely on frequent direct departures from Eminönü to the Princes’ Islands: sailings can be limited. You can travel via Kadıköy with a transfer, but it takes longer; carrying some cash is also sensible in case it is needed for the trip.
If departing for the islands from Kabataş or Bostancı, plan around the published timetable. Missing a sailing may mean a long wait for the next ferry.
Havaist airport buses operate on a fixed timetable. Arrive at the stop early, especially when travelling with luggage; it is generally a faster and more convenient option than arranging last-minute alternatives.
