TL;DR
Istanbul pharmacies generally sell painkillers, fever reducers, cold, cough, sore-throat and stomach-remedy products without difficulty. Bring antibiotics, fosfomycin products such as Monural, and any prescription medication you rely on.
For fever and everyday pain, ask for Parol or Minoset (paracetamol), or Nurofen, Brufen and Advil (ibuprofen). For stronger acute, dental or headache pain, pharmacies may offer Arveles, Majezik or Apranax; check contraindications with the pharmacist.
For cold symptoms, ask for Tylolhot sachets, Katarin, A-Ferin, Deflu or Iburamin Cold. Common throat options include Tantum Verde, Klorhex, Andorex, Oroheks Plus and Strepsils; Otrivine or Iliadin are nasal sprays, while Asist, Perebron and Sinecod are cough remedies.
Do not rely on being able to buy antibiotics, fosfomycin medicines such as Monural, or other regular prescription drugs without a prescription in Istanbul. Standard cold, pain and stomach-upset remedies are usually available at a local eczane (pharmacy).
If you regularly use dermatology treatments, antidepressants or other specialist medication, check the active ingredient and bring an adequate supply. Turkey has specialist medicines, but brands and prescription requirements can differ.
