For a group of six, a suitable taxi was available outside the hotel: an 8-minute ride cost 500 TRY. You can arrange the return trip with the same driver; two hours at the destination was enough.

Instead of hailing a street taxi, ask your hotel reception to book one to the canyon — safer option. Pay the driver in dollars/euros, while the canyon entrance fee is paid in Turkish lira. The driver can wait (even nap in the car) while you visit, working out cheaper than a guided excursion.
