Can an 18-year-old check into a hotel in Dubai without an adult?

A traveler planning a trip to Dubai at 18 was told by a travel agency in July 2026 that the hotel cannot check in a guest under 21 without an accompanying adult. He himself had found online that the age of majority across all emirates was lowered to 18 on June 1. Such a mismatch is a reason to check the conditions with the hotel directly.

Another participant replied in July 2026 that the lower age opens only a very limited set of options. In his words, in practice hotels check guests in when an adult — for example, an accompanying travel agent — acts as the young guest's guardian. So the issue is often settled by having an adult present rather than by turning 18 alone.

In late July 2026 a participant wrote that, as far as he knew, the legal age in the UAE had been lowered from 21 to 18, so an 18-year-old should in principle be able to check into a hotel alone without problems. This is his reading of the law, not the policy of a particular hotel.
