Hotels, especially 4–5-star properties, often can exchange cash, but it is best only for a small amount on arrival. The rate is usually weaker — often around 3.45–3.60 AED per USD — and the front desk may have limited dirham cash.

One of the most practical options in the city is Al Ansari Exchange, with branches in Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, and many areas of Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Rates there are usually much closer to market level, around 3.65–3.67 AED per USD, and service is often faster than at banks.

Lulu Exchange and Al Fardan Exchange are also widely used chains with decent rates and branches near malls and metro stations. For cash exchange, your passport is usually enough; old, damaged, or heavily wrinkled US bills may be accepted at a worse rate or refused.
